Nepal Deposits Instruments of Ratification of the Labour Inspection Convention and the Protocol to the Forced Labour Convention
His Excellency Ambassador Ram Prasad Subedi, Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations and other International Organizations in Geneva, formally deposited the Instruments of Ratification of the Labour Inspection Convention, 1947 (No. 81) and the Protocol of 2014 to the Forced Labour Convention, 1930, with His Excellency Gilbert F. Houngbo, Director General of the International Labour Organization, during a ceremony held at ILO Headquarters in Geneva today.
With this, Nepal becomes the 152nd Member State to ratify the Labour Inspection Convention, 1947 and the 66th country to ratify the Protocol of 2014 to the Forced Labour Convention, 1930.
The Government of Nepal’s decision to ratify these important international labour instruments and undertake the obligations arising therefrom reflects its unwavering commitment to promoting decent work and strengthening labour governance through fair, inclusive, and just labour policies and practices.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Subedi said that the ratifications reflect Nepal’s continued commitment to building a world of work founded on rights, dignity and justice. They underscore Nepal’s resolve to strengthen labour inspection as a cornerstone of compliance, worker protection, and decent work. They reinforce Nepal’s determination to eradicate forced labour and uphold fundamental principles and rights at work.
Director General Mr. Houngbo commended Nepal for depositing the Instruments of Ratification and welcomed the country’s firm commitment to advancing international labour standards. He expressed confidence that these ratifications would further reinforce Nepal’s efforts to strengthen labour inspection systems, combat forced labour and promote decent work. He reaffirmed the ILO’s continued support to Nepal in the effective implementation of these international labour standards.
The Government of Nepal signed the Instruments of Ratification on 27 July 2026, following their ratification by the Federal Parliament on 15 July 2026.
